Who We Are

Concrete Contractors of El Paso is a concrete-focused construction company based in El Paso, Texas. We build commercial and industrial concrete across the Borderplex — El Paso County, Santa Teresa New Mexico, Sunland Park, Las Cruces, and the surrounding communities that make up one of the most distinctive construction markets in North America. Our crews work in the Chihuahuan Desert every day, which means we understand the soil chemistry, the climate, and the operational realities of concrete construction in this specific environment better than contractors who treat El Paso like any other Texas market.

What Makes El Paso Concrete Different

Every concrete market has its own technical character. El Paso's is defined by four factors that shape every concrete decision we make on every project.

First, the soil chemistry. El Paso's caliche — the calcium-carbonate hardpan that underlies most of the metro — is highly alkaline, and the alluvial soils in many locations carry sulfate concentrations that attack standard portland cement over time. We specify sulfate-resistant Type V or blended cement on foundation and below-grade scopes where soil reports confirm elevated sulfate levels, which is standard practice for us — not an unusual upgrade. The cost of the right cement is modest. The cost of ettringite-driven foundation deterioration discovered at year eight is not.

Second, the climate. El Paso sees over 297 sunny days per year at 3,800-to-4,100-foot elevation, with relative humidity that routinely drops below 15 percent in spring and summer. That combination creates evaporation conditions that can trigger plastic shrinkage cracking within minutes of placing concrete if evaporation control measures aren't active and ready. We calculate the ACI 305 evaporation rate at the start of every pour day — wind speed, air temperature, humidity, and concrete temperature — and we have explicit protocols for each threshold: apply evaporation retarder, shift pour timing, or reschedule. We don't proceed and hope the conditions cooperate.

Third, the caliche excavation reality. Caliche is mechanically stable, which is positive for bearing capacity. It is also calcium-carbonate-cemented, which means standard backhoe production rates assume soil that doesn't exist on most El Paso industrial sites. We map caliche depth from boring logs before pricing any excavation, use pneumatic breaking equipment in hard caliche zones, and price the work with production rates specific to the site rather than averaging across a number that looks competitive but creates a cost dispute mid-project.

Fourth, the monsoon hydrology. El Paso receives under 10 inches of annual rainfall, but 50 percent of that falls in a 10-week July-through-September monsoon window — often as concentrated convective cells that deliver an inch or more in under an hour on surfaces that are completely impermeable. We design drainage infrastructure for the monsoon event, not the annual average, and we maintain dewatering equipment on El Paso sites during monsoon season because perched water above the caliche layer can fill foundation excavations within hours of a storm.

Bilingual Field Operations

El Paso is 82 percent Hispanic, and the concrete industry that builds this city is predominantly Spanish-first. Our field superintendents are bilingual. Our safety orientations and toolbox talks are conducted in Spanish on every project where the crew is Spanish-first — which is most of our projects. Our quality checklists, pre-pour briefings, and daily reports are available in Spanish when the owner, subcontractor, or operations team communicates primarily in Spanish.

For maquila-affiliated clients with operations management based in Cd. Juárez or Chihuahua, we provide Spanish-language progress reports, route RFIs to Juárez-based engineers in Spanish, and conduct construction coordination meetings bilingually when the Juárez team is present at the El Paso site. That bilingual capacity is not a specialty accommodation — it's how effective construction coordination works in this city.

Our primary operations base is in El Paso, and most of our project work is within daily crew dispatch range of the city. We cover El Paso County — including East El Paso, West El Paso, Northeast El Paso, Downtown, Mission Valley, the Upper and Lower Valley communities, Horizon City, Socorro, and the Fort Bliss corridor — as standard operating territory. We hold active contractor registration in New Mexico through the Construction Industries Division, covering Santa Teresa, Sunland Park, Anthony NM, Chaparral, Las Cruces, and Mesilla as regular service area. Extended-corridor projects in Deming NM, Alamogordo NM, and Sierra Blanca TX are executed with staged mobilization planning and local supply chain coordination.
